Description: Witch Hazel is an alcoholic extract from the leaves and flowers of the hamamelis tree. One of nature's best astringents, there is probably no better tonic or toner for skin care preparations. It is frequently used in products like after shave lotions, where it shows mildly styptic properties as well as helping to reduce razor burn and swelling through its cool soothing sensation. In skin care Witch Hazel can be used as toner or in pace of a cleanser. It is particularly beneficial for oil and problem skin through its more gentle properties.
Use Levels: This can be used directly on the skin but most people formulate with between 1-20% in a finished product. Do keep in mind this Witch Hazel contains alcohol and that alcohol may destabilise your emulsion to some extend. This can be fixed with formula adjustments. This witch hazel contains around 14% alcohol so the alcohol content might only start being an issue in an emulsion if you plan on using 40% or more Witch Hazel in your emulsion.
Aroma: Mild, herbal, sharp and clean aroma
